Janmashtami Celebrations :-
The story of Krishna’s birth is told aloud in temples and is passed down orally from generation to generation in homes. The tale is a representation of the divine power that Lord Krishna possesses. Worshippers pay homage to Lord Krishna through the singing of hymns of devotion. There is a trance-like state that takes over the cities of India. People have a great deal of faith in Krishna, so they go to temples at night, clasp their hands together, and bend their heads in front of his statue.
As a representation of Krishna’s birth, a miniature version of his idol is put inside of a miniature cradle. Worshipers sing bhajans and recite the Hindu prayer known as aarti as they joyfully rock the cradle in preparation for the advent of Shri Krishna. Devotees will abstain from food and drink for the entirety of the day, only breaking their fast at midnight or the following day. The fast is typically done without consuming any water. The air is filled with the divine aroma of burning camphor, the calming scent of fragrant flowers, and the ringing of bells from the temple.
The Janmashtami festival and its associated traditions start early in the day with worshippers adorning Krishna statues with flowers and’mor pankh,’ which is a type of conch shell (peacock feather). After the baby is born at midnight, they give him his favorite “maakhan,” which is white butter, along with curd and milk. In addition, Dahi Handi competitions are organized.
